JoEllyn L. Jones is a criminal defense attorney, restorative justice advocate, and community leader based in Bridgeton, New Jersey.
JoEllyn's path to criminal defense was shaped by a deep commitment to justice and a clear-eyed understanding of the systems that shape people's lives. She has dedicated her career to representing those who are most vulnerable — people facing criminal charges, young people in the juvenile justice system, parents navigating DCPP involvement, and families planning for the future.
Her approach to defense is holistic and human. She takes the time to understand not just the facts of a case, but the full story of the person before her — their history, their circumstances, their strengths, and their goals. She believes that effective advocacy requires seeing the whole person, not just the charge.
JoEllyn is a passionate advocate for restorative justice — an approach to accountability that prioritizes healing, community, and genuine repair over punishment. She has written and spoken publicly about the need for restorative approaches in schools, courts, and communities, and is developing a dedicated restorative justice practice at the firm.
She is an active member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL), the Cumberland County Bar Association (CCBA), the Association of Black Women Lawyers of New Jersey (ABWL-NJ), and the Black Public Defender Association (BPDA). Through these organizations, she works to advance the rights of defendants, support fellow defense attorneys, and strengthen the legal profession's commitment to equity and justice.
JoEllyn is also a leader in her community. She serves as a board member of Dream Catchers of Gouldtown and the Alms Center inc. She understands that the work of justice does not end in the courtroom — it extends into the neighborhoods, schools, and institutions that shape people's lives.
